How to Quickly and Safely Clean Your Coffeemaker

Just like any appliance or machine in the house, it is important to carry out routine maintenance with the coffeemaker. Routine maintenance and cleaning will help keep the machine running properly and help extend its life as well. Not to mention, the quality of the coffee the machine produces will remain as good as when you first bought it.

Tips for Cleaning the Coffeemaker

First of all, we recommend making a daily effort to keep your coffee maker clean. After you have finished using the machine for the day, all you need to do is clean up any leftover grounds that remain inside the port, the section where hot water meets the ground coffee.

Every 15 days, however, a more thorough cleaning should be done. By doing this, we are going to focus on the key components of the machine. These components include the water compartment, gaskets, and even the drip tray. Luckily, we could use the same detergents that we would use with any other household item that comes into contact with food.

Since there is the constant presence of water in the coffeemaker, limescale is naturally going to be an issue. Wherever water passes in the machine, there is the risk of the formation of limescale. When it comes to getting rid of limescale, there are plenty of products at the supermarket available, but we recommend using a mixture of natural products that you can already find in your home.

Vinegar is a fine example of a natural limescale cleaner. All you need to do is create a mixture of two parts vinegar and one part water. Add the solution to the water tank and run the machine like you normally would when preparing coffee. This will allow the cleaning solution to come into contact with all the surfaces that could contain limescale.

Another option for getting rid of limescale is using citric acid. Mix 180 grams of citric acid with one liter of water and run the liquid through the coffeemaker in the same fashion as we would with vinegar. After running the liquid for about 20 seconds, we just need to flush out the cleaner with some plain, tepid water.
