Don’t Throw Away the Leftover Coffee But Use It with Cloves, the Mixture Will Solve Your Big Problem

As you well know, the summer climate favors the appearance of insects and parasites in the house, such as flies, mosquitoes, and cockroaches. In short, every type of creature invades our spaces. To combat these pests, we want to offer you a natural insecticide made from two food items with great repellent properties: coffee grounds and cloves. By using this mixture, you can keep these unwanted creatures away from your living spaces.

Leftover coffee is an excellent insect repellent because it contains caffeine, which is harmful to insects. Caffeine interferes with the nervous and muscular systems which makes them confused and weak.

Cloves have certain substances that make them repel insects. One of these substances is eugenol, an essential oil found in this spice. Eugenol is very good at keeping insects away and is particularly responsible for their repellent properties.

Now, let’s learn how to combine these two ingredients together to create our own natural insecticide.

To prepare the mixture you will only need a candle, coffee grounds, and cloves. Place the candle in a bowl or container and submerge the ingredients in the bowl with the candle. Ensure that the wick of the candle remains uncovered. Light the candle and allow the aromas to disperse. That’s all you need to do to prepare the natural insecticide.

Alternatively, you can use these ingredients in another way.

Fill a saucepan with 250ml of water and heat until boiling. Then, add the coffee grounds and cloves. Allow them to boil for around 10 minutes, so that the ingredients can release their repellent properties.

Once the boiling time has elapsed, turn off the heat and let the solution cool down. Use a strainer or clean cloth to filter the mixture. Then, pour the filtered insecticide into a spray bottle for easy application.

Now that you have your natural insecticide ready, you can use it to get rid of unwanted insects. Simply spray the solution directly on the insects or on surfaces where they gather, like windows, doors, walls, and infested plants.
