Before your next load of laundry, try soaking your black clothes in salt water

Over time, our clothes go through countless loads of laundry, and this can make our black clothes look particularly dull and faded. But before going to the store to replace your black garments, it may be worth trying this method to bring back their rich color.

Why Put Black Clothes in Salt Water?

Through ongoing exposure, black clothes begin to lose luster as a result of heat from the washing machine. For this reason, to avoid the problem altogether, it is always recommended that you wash your black clothes in cold water. The temperature setting should never exceed 30°C. By taking this precaution, the black colors of your clothes should last significantly longer.

Usually, modern washing machines are programmed with preset cycles so as to adapt to the particular color of your load of laundry. However, if you own an older washing, you can always resort to using shorter cycles to preserve your black clothing. Also, it is important to avoid the dryer and simply hang dry after washing.

Now, you can always use this little trick with salt in order to maintain the black color of your garments. You just need to know how to use it correctly.

This is what you will need:

  • 100 grams of salt
  • 1 cup of white wine vinegar
  • 1 bowl of water

These items are most likely already sitting in your kitchen. And if not, it is just a quick trip to the grocery store. It’s also worth noting that the things we are using are completely free of any chemical agents that could be harmful to your health, unlike many of the store-bought products.

So here’s what to do. Mix all the aforementioned ingredients and mix them in the bowl of water. Next, immerse the article of clothing and let it sit in the solution for at least a couple of minutes. The effect of the salt helps retain the dark color and even repair the results of aging. Now you can run your next load of laundry in the manner that we mentioned previously.
