5 of grandma’s remedies to help get rid of that sewer smell from the bathroom

The smell of sewage coming from the bathroom can be quite annoying. Usually this is because the pipes and siphon are blocked by the accumulation of dirt and debris.

As a result, the blockage produces exhaust which is the culprit for those unpleasant smells. As a result, action is required to get rid of those terrible odors. Overall, this is not going to be the easiest of tasks, but fortunately there are some natural remedies that can help us get this under control: here’s five of them!

Eco-friendly ways to say goodbye to sewage smells

Using lemon is a perfect way of combating the bad smells that can come from the bathroom. Not only does it help with the problem, but it also provides a pleasant aroma as well. And it’s really easy to use. Just add the juice from a total of 3 lemons to a bucket of boiling water. Pour the mixture into all the various drains in the bathroom and leave it for a few hours or overnight.

Baking soda is another great option. It is usually highly recommended for dealing with these types of situations. Before going to bed, drop a spoonful of baking soda to all the affected drains. The next morning, rinse out the drains with some boiling water, and you’re all done.

White wine vinegar is one of our preferred eco-friendly products. It not only comes with stain removing and degreasing properties, but it is also great at unclogging drains and deodorizing the air. Vinegar will undoubtedly be able take care of the problem. Add two cups of white wine vinegar to a bucket of boiling water. Pour the mix into all the drains, including the shower and toilet. The next morning, wake up and notice the difference.

Salt is naturally absorbent, and it is capable of taking away the moisture in the air and removing the smell of sewage. Put a spoonful of salt in all the drains and pipes in the bathroom before going to bed. The next day just pour some boiling water wherever you left the salt, and then you’re done. It worked!

Limescale

Finally, we have citric acid, the fighter of grease and limescale. Just drop half a tablespoon of citric acid down all the drains and let it sit overnight. The next morning, pour some hot water down the drains, and the job’s all finished.
